Motorhomes/Campervans
I'm looking at buying one in the next few weeks. It's going to be for me to actually live in whilst I look for a property in Portugal. Thus a 4 berth is what I require
Does anyone have one and more especially bought one in the last 2 years.

Prices seem to have stabilised and I'm thinking (like dogs ) folks will want rid now the novelty has worn off and they don't use them as much as thought they would.

I've been to a couple of dealers and their prices seem crazy, how much mark up do they have ?
Looking on loads of websites but haven't found "the one" yet.

I like Hymer's because their tech is good and everything well made.

thanks for any guidance in advance.

If you can afford it, get the one with fixed beds.

It’s a real pain converting chairs to bed every night

Why not ask Vexed if there’s any for sale in his campsite?

Where are you thinking of living in Portugal? In my opinion these camper vans are overpriced. I'd just rent locally while looking.

I don't know if the price has stabilised but the demand over the summer was crazy, one of my boys bought a couple of camper vans that he sold on and one of them had over 51,000 views on ebay

Nothing that I can help you with. I love the place and the Portuguese. Just been at my place in Lisbon.

Good luck.

Mates daughter and her other half deceked out 2 over the past year... Transit van and a VW... both are superb... just spend their time driving around the UK... apparently only cunt of a place was some of the Scottish Islands... they literally got chased out

Re: Motorhomes/Campervans
Keep an eye on the expat forums as some European countries are now clamping down on the documentation and registration requirements for UK registered vehicles being used by expats aboard.

A lot of tat out there in the sub £10k range as opportunists converted the larger LT vans complete with a quarter of a million miles on the clock. Don't be fooled by 'these engines are bullet proof, only a small percentage of well maintained ones are. LT's are bigger and appeal to people who like the idea of living in, but they could well have starter life as delivery/courier vans.

The other thing to check is that they are registered as Motor Caravans, many of them are still registered as commercial vans so you might have problems with insurance.

The Hymers are a good build quality but most reasonable priced are old now, they weigh a ton, drink fuel and they wont get you far very fast.

If you are looking to live in then its vital to get a good solar set up unless you are intending to live around serviced campsites, but they have increased in price for the same reasons and can be quite fussy on the type/condition of campers they allow in.

Wild camping is an extreme lifestyle change, you have to be really determined to do it and then tough it out when it rains all week.

And don't fall into the trap of chasing a VW badge as they are always priced over and above their Fiat/Ford/Peugeot rivals who do just as good a job, sometimes with a much higher living spec.

Prestige in it... VW campers... bit like comparing a Lambretta SX 200 with a twist and go Roo Vespa...

It's a myth fella, VW have cracked to be fair
Apparently the best quality is a coach-built Transit !

SX200 best used as a coffee shop ornament

If you want a scooter that works, get a Yamaha.

Can of worms eh?!
